Metal pool fence – Before erecting a pool fence, you must know the height requirements of your community. Most, but not all, communities follow the guidelines and requirements established by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission. In addition to the height of the fence, you must comply with the retention requirements and fence types. Metal pool fence should be 4 feet or more to provide a safe area that children cannot access, but some communities have a 6 foot requirement. A 6-foot metal pool fence will keep children, but it will also provide privacy. The fence cannot contain more than 4 inches of land, or a small child can crawl under the fence to the pool area.
The fences should not have any type of support or handholds that children can hold on to and pass over the fence. Any type of fence can be used – unless it is specified differently for your community that meets other requirements. For slat fences, the distance between each slat cannot contain more than 1 3/4 inches. With metal pool fence, diamond sizes cannot exceed 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Basically, any fence is acceptable as long as there is no space for children to pass.
